Geography & Lifestyle |
Gippsland Lakes Community Health is centrally located in the idyllic coastal town of Lakes Entrance. Situated on the Ninety Mile Beach, within the famous Gippsland Lakes system, Lakes Entrance is approximately three and a half hours drive East of Melbourne, and two and a half hours from the snowfields of Mt Hotham. The region boasts exceptional coastline scenery, an impressive lakes and river system, rugged high country and extensive national parks and state forest. The centre itself is within walking distance of the beach, local shops and indoor heated pool. |
Building |
The practice has undergone renovations over recent years, is fully air conditioned and has a range of security measure in place. |
Clinical |
The Medical service operates between 8.00am and 8.00pm, Monday to Friday and between 8am and 2pm on weekends and public holidays. The GP Practice is supported by experienced Division 1 Registered Nurses conducting triage and assessments both within and outside the standard appointment sessions. A formal agreement with Bairnsdale Regional Health Service ensures clients have access to care outside these hours. Gippsland Lakes Community Health is a fully-accredited teaching practice housing up to six GPs and one GP Registrar. Up to two fourth year medical students from the East Gippsland Regional Clinical School of Monash University are attached to the clinic during the academic year. With the absence of a hospital in Lakes Entrance, Gippsland Lakes Community Health is able to provide a primary response to a range of medical emergencies. The clinic incorporates a well-equipped Accident and Emergency facility, staffed by experienced nursing personnel. Visiting Specialists include a Surgeon, Physician and Paediatricians. The practice is fully computerised and are electronically linked with outreach GP services site at Nowa Nowa Community Health, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, and Bruthen, with future plans to include Metung. |
Hours / After Hours |
After hours commitments are rostered on a rotational basis with other GPs and generally do not extend beyond 8.00pm. |
Registrar Conditions |
GLCH has a long association with the training of GP Registrars and students. Our GP supervisors have extensive experience in both undergraduate and post graduate teaching. Particular opportunities exist for skill development in the areas of emergency medicine, home and palliative care, Koori health and minor surgical procedures. Salary packaging will be available subject to changes in the FBT legislation or the eligibility of the organisation to access this benefit. A Commonwealth Government funding initiative has enabled the purchase of a fully furnished, modern townhouse for Registrar accommodation in Lakes Entrance. |
