Surgery Hours
Weekdays 9.00am - 12.00 noon and 1.30 - 5.00pm
Saturday 9.00 - 10.00am
The clinic provides a 24 hour service for this community, coordinated through the Heyfield Hospital.
At Hospital
Saturday 6.00pm
Sunday 10.00am & 6.00pm
At other times after triage, the on-call doctor may give telephone advice by ringing the patient back or may arrange to meet the patient at the hospital or visit the patient's home. The duty doctor does not take calls directly from patients after-hours, making this aspect of our practice quite doctor-friendly. The after-hours roster is shared equally with weekend cover commencing on Friday and continuing through till 8.30am Monday morning.

Registrar Conditions

Heyfield Medical Centre has been a training practice for 15 years and registrars readily accepted by the community as an integral part of our workforce. Therefore the registrar can expect to see a broad cross-section of patients. Registrars take an equal share of the after-hours roster - at present one in four nights and weekends.

Registrars are accommodated in a self-contained 2 bedroom flat adjacent to the hospital, rent-free

The practice functions as a small business. The practice provides comprehensive care for palliative patients.

Teaching schedule overview

We develop a learning plan with each registrar and PGPPP intern. Each SGPT accredited Supervisor in the practice has different interests and you will rotate through each GP for tutorials. Dr Peter Stevens, Principal GP Supervisor and SGPT Medical Educator, has an interest in sport and musculoskeletal medicine. Dr Greg Ivanoff, GP Supervisor, has an interest in rural and remote health.

Supervision arrangements overview

Our Registrars and PGPPP interns are fully supervised by Peter and Greg. After hours, the Registrar is always supported by phone advice or attendance if required. We endeavour to support our Interns by physical attendance by a senior doctor wherever possible unless the senior heyfield hospital nurse advises otherwise.
