Dr Peter Stevens, Dr Lynden Derrick, Dr Greg Ivanoff Drs Peter Stevens, Lynden Derrick and Greg Ivanoff are accredited GP Supervisors with Southern General Practice Training (SGPT) Eastern/Gippsland Division. The Practice is unconditionally accredited with AGPAL and an accredited Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP), General Practice training site for all levels of General Practice Training; we currently host a John Flynn scholar. Heyfield Medical Centre is an accredited training site for the "Small Town ARSP" In fact Dr Lynden Derrick was the Registrar hosted in the original pilot of this innovation undertaken by Heyfield Medical Centre, SGPT, ACRRM & RACGP. Our Supervisors have appointments with Monash University School of Rural Health and host Medical students for GP attachments and PBL tutorials; this includes the 3rd year groups who spend the year in Sale and Traralgon. Heyfield Medical Centre is co-located with Heyfield Hospital, an integrated site with 10 acute Hospital beds, a 30 bed Aged Care Hostel & 22 Nursing Home beds; the Medical Practice and an Allied Health suite. |

Dr Peter Stevens acquired the practice in 1989 and it has been an accredited RACGP training practice since that time, taking registrars for basic training terms on rotation. We also take fifth and final year medical students for two-week rotation from Monash and Melbourne universities. Peter is a Medical Educator for SGPT. Dr Lynden Derrick was a registrar in our practice, completing his Basic term, some of his Subsequent time and a "Small Town ARSP" in the practice. He has joined the practice permanently from February 2002. Dr Greg Ivanoff is an Australian Medical Graduate from Adelaide. He was also a Gippsland registrar, completing his basic and advanced terms with us in 2002. Dr Ivanoff returned to Heyfield in 2004 for his Advanced Rural Skills posting, and has remained with our practice since. |

Nurses: Heyfield Medical Centre employs five part time nurses: Sr Ann Whelan is a Community Diabetic Educator and our diabetic practice nurse. Kate Clear coordinates and tracks our immunisation activity. Sr Heather Phillipson is a Wound Consultant nurse and regularly conducts preventative home visits with our GPs. Sr Joanne Hector is our Womans Health nurse and is an accredited pap smear provider. Sr Jenny Bullen has an interest in wound care and preventative health. Reception staff: |

Heyfield is a rural community of 2000 people, north of the Princes Highway, midway between, and half an hour from, the regional centres of Traralgon and Sale. Heyfield is near Lake Glenmaggie, on the road to Licola and the High Country, about 200 kilometres from Melbourne and offers a variety of sporting and recreational activities. |

Hours / After Hours |

During routine clinic hours (9.00am - 5.00pm) a member of the office
staff will always be present to answer telephones, greet patients and
assist the doctor when needed. Staff are responsible for opening and
closing the clinic securely and activating any alarm system. |

Heyfield Medical Centre has been a training practice for 15 years and registrars readily accepted by the community as an integral part of our workforce. Therefore the registrar can expect to see a broad cross-section of patients. Registrars take an equal share of the after-hours roster - at present one in four nights and weekends. Registrars are accommodated in a self-contained 2 bedroom flat adjacent to the hospital, rent-free |
