Traralgon is the largest centre in Gippsland. The Latrobe Regional Hospital at Traralgon West is the major referral hospital for the area and welcomes GP involvement. Maryvale Private Hospital, 10 minutes from Traralgon, provides an opportunity to provide private inpatient care. Many recreational areas are easily accessed from Traralgon: bushwalking in East Gippsland forests, horse riding the Bogong High Plains, skiing the snow fields at Mts Hotham & Baw Baw, fishing and boating on the Gippsland Lakes, swimming at local beaches... We have indoor cricket, indoor swimming and fitness centres and a large basketball stadium. The Traralgon Tennis Centre hosts the ITA Australian Junior Tennis Championships. Our Latrobe Light Opera Society is of a high standard and provides an opportunity to be involved or entertained with quality productions. Traralgon has easy access to a wide range of schools - government, Catholic and private - with no need to send children away to boarding school. The practice is fully accredited with AGPAL. We provide a 'paperless' office environment using Best Practice with results online and scanning of specialist letters. Weekly IT and clinical meetings, nurse, reception and all staff have independent monthly meetings which drives a help drive a uniform approach across the practice. A full range of local and visiting specialists, pathology and diagnostic services have co-located near the practice. Our practice takes on medical students,
nursing and pharmacy students for rotations in general practice. Patients are diverse, coming from farming, mining, forestry, engineering and other industries as well as the usual range of elderly, pregnant and paediatric patients. Our daily work encompasses the full range of GP skills from occupational health, travel medicine to nursing home visits. Comprehensive, long-term and family-oriented care is important to us and demonstrated by the long-term commitment of our GPs, some of whom have been with the practice for over 20 years. |
Hours / After Hours |
We consult between 8.30am and 6.00pm on weekdays. The on-call doctor sees clinic patients with urgent problems at a Saturday morning clinic and (briefer) Saturday evening, Sunday morning and Sunday evening clinics. The practice provides after-hours care for our patients, including home visits when necessary, with a one in seven roster. Latrobe Regional Hospital provides A & E and specialist backup for emergencies. We always provide an experienced GP to be second-on-call as support for our registrars. |
