Academic General Practice
Gippsland offers training in Academic General Practice with positions attached to the East Gippsland Regional Clinical School, Sale and Bairnsdale and the Gippsland Medical School, Churchill. These are half time posts for six or twelve months and are usually undertaken alongside a general practice placement. These academic posts offer support in undertaking a research project and the opportunity to be involved in teaching and in program development. The posts are supported by GPET with funding and research skills development.
By the end of the placement, registrars can expect to have undertaken a research project and have submitted a paper for publication. This is an excellent opportunity to have an experience of academic general practice and may be the beginning of a career in academic medicine.
