Innovative, quality training in a beautiful part of the world.
SGPT is recognised for its innovation in quality education and training for general practice.
Based in the scenic Gippsland region in south eastern Victoria, SGPT provides programs that are flexible, individualised and learner centred.

Funded by the Commonwealth Government and accredited by GPET, the RACGP and ACRRM, SGPT has taken a lead role in developing training tools and methods. SGPT has developed  GPRime and STARs, both web-based learning tools now used throughout Australia. SGPT has also built a community based Obstetric Bridging post program for enabling doctors to consolidate the confidence and competence needed to undertake General Practice Obstetrics. SGPT has an exchange program with the Irish Donegal General Practice training program.

SGPT provides experience and training in both hospital and general practice settings. The diversity of the Gippsland region provides General Practice Registrars with rich and varied professional and personal experiences. SGPT offers a wealth of opportunities in procedural skills training with training posts in anaesthetics, emergency medicine, surgery, procedural paediatrics and levels B and C obstetrics.

The region offers training locations ranging from small rural towns to larger regional centres, scenic high country practices to locations along the beautiful Gippsland coast.

The different lifestyles of its people means those practising in Gippsland work with a wide range of medical issues, an excellent training ground for the challenges of General Practice.

Gippsland has much to recommend itself as a place to live. It is one of the most fertile, scenic and resource rich regions of Australia. Gippsland offers the best in a wide range of recreational activities – fishing, cycling, bush walking, kayaking, skiing, sailing and surfing. Gippsland produces a broad range of gourmet foods, wines and beers. The area is serviced by private and public schools many of which have strong reputations nationally as educational institutions. There are a range of tertiary educational options including Monash University Churchill Campus. Gippsland is serviced by dual carriage highways and by a fast train service. It is the ideal place to bring up a family.
