ELIGIBILITY FOR GP TRAINING

Details of eligibility for enrolment in the Australian General Practice Training Program can be found at www.agpt.com.au under Applicants.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

After processing of your application materials through GPET, you will be given and notified of a relative ranking, and then given the option to change your preferences. Following this, applicants are allocated for interview with a training consortium depending on their ranking and preferences. There are a total of three rounds of interviews, although most applicants who have a reasonable ranking will be accepted into a particular training program after a first interview.

Details of dates and procedures are posted on the AGPT site.

ON ACCEPTANCE INTO THE TRAINING PROGRAM

It is important that you take on the responsibility of knowing what is required before your first placement. You will be notified of arrangements well in advance. However, as a working, earning professional it is up to you to be sure you confirm where you will be working, who to contact, your accommodation and other family arrangements.

Training Program administrative staff are available to help you orient yourself to your new work environment and your GP supervisor and others will be supporting you in education and training as well as any personal issues that may arise. If you are starting in a general practice the practice manager will help with accommodation and administrative arrangements.

Contact details for these people can be found at Contact Us on this site.

Although there are many people to assist you in settling in, please note that we cannot take over your personal living responsibilities. For instance, we are not able to book your children into schools, phone removalists or fill in forms for you.
