Welcome to the 2010 Winter edition of the getGP news letter. Most of my and the Boards focus has been on the progressing amalgamation of getGP with Greater Green Triangle General Practice Education and Training (GGTGPET). The amalgamation allows our organisation to grow dramatically in size and capacity ranging from the NSW border to the South East South Australia and now including Frankston/ Mornington Peninsula and Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. The inclusion of the Peninsula regions allows us for the first time to be able to offer a General Pathway along with our traditional Rural Pathway. The numbers of Registrar and Prevocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP) placements are set to increase in the next successive years requiring Regional Training Providers (RTPs) to work across our region and our stakeholders, particularly Medical Practices, Supervisors and Medical Educators to grow our capacity and capability sustainably. I thank all of our current practices for staying committed to delivering Medical Education training opportunities and I acknowledge issues around physical capacity in practice. The Federal Government in its wisdom has finally identified the need for infrastructure funding but the duration of the roll out is unknown and how far the funding will be spread is also unknown. Our workshops with the Registrars are led by our talented team of Patrick Kinsella, Jenny Worboys, Elizabeth Bulling, Stuart Anderson and James Brown. Our ME team are very highly regarded nationally and their commitment to delivering a vast array of relevant topics that will enable the registrars to develop their confidence and capability. Our Administration team of Linda Kruger (Program Manager), Lisa Kassell (ME Co-ord Support), Jessica Versluis (Events Coordinator), Leeann Burgess (Finance and Executive Support), Karen Alexander (PGPPP Co-ord), Julie Murray (Medical Language Advisor) and Danielle Cook (Admin Trainee) are a great team and continually seek to maintain the organisation and all our stakeholders with the best advice and practical support. By the Spring edition of the newsletter the amalgamation should be close to being finalised and will update all of you with any changes and opportunities. Feel free to contact me at any time
